The Home Boys
The idea of The Coming Home Boys was almost Heaven sent, literally. While performing for a local church's 100th anniversary, the pastor announced the band as "The Coming Home Boys" and the new dream was born. Jazz and Blues will still play a great part in future music, yet the boys also look to embrace Country and music with an uplifting message to their track listings. So let this not be a sad goodbye to the Lick John Project, but instead a warm welcome to the coming home to ones roots.
Mark Snow, at only 16 years of age, is a rising, talented young musician. As he perfects his own craft on both piano and saxophone he is influenced by such artists as Miles Davis, Charlie Parker and David Sanborn just to name a few. For the fourth consecutive year, Mark has been a member of the Houston Summer Jazz Workshop Program where his musical growth and God given talent as a musician continue to shine with every performance. Mark has played alongside recording artist Chelsea Green and Kyle Turner and most recently entertained the Mayor of Houston, the Honorable Sylvester Turner! All this while being an integral part of the CHB. "'The Coming Home Boys' means an experience to play music and entertain people while getting an experience in the music business which really helps me in the future." - Mark Snow
Justin Mbah, the soul of The Coming Home Boys. From his beginnings with bands The Perfect Storm and VSax & The Crew to his current home with The Clarence Riley Band and CHB, his unwavering hum of the bass guitar takes each groove and blends them into one unified sound. Influenced by an array of artists, such as Victor Wooten, Bootsy Collins and Esperanza Spalding to groups such as Earth, Wind & Fire, Kool & the Gang and Slave, Justin brings an untouchable coolness to the stage. "What 'The Coming Home Boys' mean to me would be having a bond and unity in making music with some of the best musicians in the city." - Justin Mbah
The Coming Home Boys found a technical powerhouse in Edward Brathwaite Jr. Encouraged by his father at a young age and influenced by such heavy hitting legends as Louis Armstrong, his early lessons on coronet soon lead him on a journey to his passion for playing guitar. Soon his influences broadened to all genres like Funk and Gospel to New Age and Classical. When not standing as lead guitarist on stage with CHB, Eddie also sings, writes, arranges original composition and is currently co-producing an LP as a solo artist. “’The Coming Home Boys’ is a return to musical roots, Blues and traditions of this great state of Texas, and Country music mixed with our personal ethic traditions of Jazz and R&B. We bring the stories of love and pain and struggle in song. We, through song, pay tribute to some of America’s greatest song writers and musicians. Finally, it’s a return to live entertainment with real musicians performing to their audience with a chance to dance, sing along and remember some of our greatest performers past and present.” – Eddie Brathwaite, Jr.
